The day didn’t go as planned, but that’s life you gotta roll with the punches
instead of the day being full of exercise, i ended up sleeping in till 10am, then we got invited to walk to the pub (1 mile), right I said “well we will just have water”, we get there and I think “ahhh will just have one cider”, that turned into 3 ciders and a southern comfort and lemonade lol, not to mention we ended up having nibbles……..
a lesson for you women LISTEN when your fella says something lol….my lass said she wanted wine, I said “don’t have wine it makes you ill”…”no” it doesn’t was her reply, so she has 3 large glasses of wine, and ends up in bed by 7pm throwing up…. hmmmm what did I say ha ha
so training in the morning (sun)

thanks belinda
Holidays Are Hard Work!
It sounds crazy doesn’t it. For me, it really is true though. Holidays by their general nature are meant to be fun and relaxing, which they are, but they also have their elements of stress and hard work! I have just lived through one! I have just returned from 5 days at my parent’s house. I love going home. I really do. I love being with my Mum and Dad, seeing my old friends and sleeping in my childhood bedroom. It’s great! What I don’t love about holidays though is the extra temptations that I face with food and the lack of control I have at times surrounding the circumstances of when, where and what I eat! I sound like a total control freak don’t I? Perhaps I am. Especially when it comes to food….
Even though I have pretty much lost all the weight I need to and really just focus on maintaining these days, I still get anxious at times, if I cannot regulate enough what goes into my mouth when I am away on holidays. I have learnt over the past 2 years what my triggers and weaknesses are when I am not at home. The thing about going away is to remember that you are having a holiday from where you live not from the way you eat. Sure, I usually indulge and have extra or different foods that I wouldn’t normally have. It wouldn’t be a true holiday if I didn’t. Nobody wants to go away and be totally strict and boring! What I have learnt from experience though, is not to throw all caution to the wind and adopt the ‘what the hell’ attitude. Following that little gem will get you into big trouble! I have done it many times. Gone away and eaten and drank whatever the hell I like. I usually ended up putting on anywhere from 2 to 5 kilo’s and hating myself and spending the next 3-4 weeks trying to get it off! I do generally expect to fluctuate a little when away on holidays though. I mean I live with my head in the real world here. It is going to happen. How much it fluctuates though I really try to keep a hold on.
A few days of eating like I used to can turn into a few weeks and then the weeks can turn into a few months and before you know it, I have put 20 kilo’s back on. That is what used to happen regularly back in the ‘old days’. Holidays are usually what would start a relapse and a spiral back into old eating habits and patterns. At least I am aware of my triggers now. I guess that really is what I still get scared of. That that could still happen to me. This is why I can find holidays such hard work. I am sure it is something that I will eventually settle down with. This whole weight loss thing and new body is still quite fresh to me. The more time I spend with it, the less anxious of losing it I am sure I will become. When I am at home I have my routines and I don’t worry. When I go away I often eat out or have others cook for me and that can stress me out. My family and friends are generally good with it all. My Mum and Dad cook healthy meals and consider the fact that I don’t eat carbs. I do find that when I go out and eat though I face some challenges. I am pretty good with knowing what to order on a menu. I know my choices well and what is good for me. I usually stick to just plain protein and veges or salad. You can’t go wrong with that. What I do struggle with is the pressure that I often get from people to eat other foods. I am fairly resistant when I go out. I can get offered garlic bread and desserts and not be phased about saying no to them. My friends I can’t always say the same thing about though. I don’t think people always understand just how disciplined I had to be to get my weight off and how I am just not interested sometimes in eating those types of foods anymore. For one, they make me sick now. I get so bloated if I eat carbs and fatty foods and they quite often will just go straight through me! (pleasant I know) Sometimes I do break out and eat stuff like that and don’t worry about the consequences but it’s not often. If I do do that I usually have allowed for it in my calorie intake and it doesn’t make much difference to my weight. The other thing my friends seem to give me a bit of a hard time about is the fact I don’t finish my meals when I eat out. They think I have an eating problem and am starving myself. I mean have you seen how much food they put on those plates though! Nobody is meant to eat that much food! I only eat until I am full and if there is food still on my plate I aint forcing it down my throat for nobody! I have learnt to just brush comments away like that when I get them and not pay attention. I make the decisions that are best for my body and if people don’t like it tough! I think I know what I am doing. You don’t lose 88 kilo’s if you don’t!
I always take some food with me when I go away or buy some when I am there. Just the general types of food that I eat at home. If I have them there then I am less likely to eat something else that maybe I shouldn’t! I always make sure I drink 3 litres of water still each day regardless of what I have eaten. You have got to keep that up no matter what! One other problem that bugs me when I go away is that I can’t eat at the times I usually do. I eat my dinner normally around 6pm. When you go out for dinner though with people it is not usually until 7pm. By the time you get there and have a drink and order you are not eating your food until 8pm! This is way too late for me! I have learnt though that this one is just something I have to get over. I can’t force everybody to eat when I want. I have learnt to live with it and at the end of the day I am not going to put on weight if I make a good food choice anyway.
I don’t mean to sound like I am having a big whinge here. It’s just fresh in my mind how really hard it can be when you go away and are not in your usual routines. Losing and maintaining weight is hard enough on the average person without having extra added pressure. I thought if I wrote down my thoughts and experiences over the past few days it may help someone else relate to it when they go away next. Being at your goal weight doesn’t mean that your life is perfect and that your weight is going to be easy. For me it is still a struggle in some way every day. It probably always will be. The biggest mistake I used to make when I went away was that I went off my regular eating patterns to the extreme. I have learnt that I can no longer do that. I have to do it in moderation. I still keep a food diary when I am away to keep track of what I am eating. I couldn’t live without doing that. I am getting better at not beating myself up when I stray and eat a bit of rubbish. I am probably my worst critic and way too hard on myself but I can’t help it. I have to learn to get better at that!
Talk to you all soon,
Bel ☺
Thanks again belinda

Bryan Kavanagh is a legend in the making, in the year that I have know him he has gone from strength to strengh in the industry, helping many to achieve amazing results, Bryan is an author, personal trainer, lifestyle coach and sought after article writer for fitness magazines and sites, his self motivation from the age of 14 and the passion of a lion has made him many a personal hero (including mine) Bryan has compassion, whit, and a power to make you want to train, in fact since knowing him I have called him jeds, short for jedi, as he has the power to change how you think about food and exercise ha ha, this may be the last chance I get to sit down and chat with him as he is just getting busier and busier all the time, watch this space BRYAN KAVANAGH will be a household name in fitness very soon, I for one look forward to it
here is what was said
Hi bryan, ok so mate am going on holiday have slimmed for it and deserve a chill out without putting all that lard on, so how do I do that my mate
BRYAN KAVANAGH :- The thing to remember is that you are ON HOLIDAYS,
Enjoy it, don’t dwell on what food you are going to have next just make informed decisions on what food you are going to eat.
LEE :- Interesting, please expand on that statement jeds
BRYAN :- I.e. if i feel like having a fry up in the morning i will pull back on calories that day and eat lightly and then maybe have a chicken breast caesar salad that night for dinner and give the ice cream a miss. Similarly if I feel like having a dirty ice cream i will make sure the dinner was light and ABS approved. That way i am only slipping up on one aspect of one of my meals per day.
LEE :- AWESOME so you think you can eat healthy on holiday then???
BRYAN:- There are decent food choices to be made no matter where you are. instead of a smelly bacon, sausage, egg, toast and orange juice. Get a large omellette and a coffee. Leave out the big bowl of pasta and get a caesar salad. burger and chips? Nah, opt for the steak and vegetables! even keep the sauce! Just lay off the starches! I know the temptation to get an ice-cream or a large smoothie (yes some smoothies are bad) is very tempting. Get a fruit salad and natural yogurt instead. Simple as that.
LEE :- most people put on weight on holiday, do you look like a michelin man after a holiday mate ???????
BRYAN :- I Will lose a little bit of definition by the fourth or fifth day…probably… but im on holidays! The thing is i will not come home 10lbs heavier and spend the next 6 weeks trying to get rid of the holiday weight. Its win-win, i get to enjoy my meals AND stay in reasonable shape for the holiday.
LEE :- some people think its mad to look after yourself on holiday is that what you find??????
BRYAN :- Some people think it is mad and have this thing in their head that they must eat crap all day every day and god forbid they go to the gym. Thing is, you feel BETTER after a light session in the gym or a quick bodyweight session. It sets you up for the day and allows you to enjoy the holiday that little bit more. I am not suggesting you go to the gym and leave yourself in a bundle. So perhaps deadlifts and heavy squatting should be left out unless you plan on spending the next day by the pool
The reality is that eating crap foods will actually ruin your holiday, make you tired and actually make you want to sit on your behind at the pool rather than exploring the local area and actually doing something constructive.
LEE :- you have been awesome bryan, is there any word of wisdom left
BRYAN :- please take some of this advice and put it into action and let me know how much better the holiday is.
LEE :- Thanks bryan, this is a guy who has 5% body fat he knows his stuff, as he says leave a comment on his website (listed below) and thanks again jeds
